Adirondack Pack Basket Making Workshop

Adirondack Pack Basket Making Workshop

Join Barbara Green of Adirondack Green House Basketry for an Adirondack Pack Basket making workshop.

  • Participants will weave a full-sized Pack Basket, approximately 18” tall.
  • They will make their packs in the same manner as original packs were made using reed rather than black or brown ash.
  • Solid wood skids and an interior wooden base hold the harness in place. There will be a selection of harness colors to choose from.
  • The top of the basket will be finished with a sewn-in handle before applying the rim.
  • When dried, the harness, skids, and base are applied. Students will be shown how to do this.
  • After the workshop, you can stain the basket and wooden components at home, and will be given instructions with the class materials.
  • All materials (except stain) and tools will be provided.
  • Participants are welcome to bring food, drinks, and snacks for the day. Museum admission is included in the workshop fee. (Please note that basket completion takes about 7 hours.)
  • Comfortable shoes are recommended.
