The Great Give Back
The Old Forge Library is inviting community members to help stock the library’s 24/7 emergency food and hygiene pantry, located in the library’s vestibule.
The Great Give Back is a statewide community service initiative that includes hundreds of public libraries across New York. This effort is designed to give library patrons meaningful opportunities to support their communities through acts of service.
On Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18, donations of non-perishable, unexpired food items and basic hygiene products are welcome during the library's regular hours. In appreciation of these contributions, the library will be offering donors a small thank-you gift.
The pantry is open around the clock for anyone facing emergency food or hygiene needs. The average usage is 32 items per day, and the library staff restocks six days a week, so community support makes a big difference.
Some of the most-used items include:
- Tuna
- Peanut Butter
- Soup and ramen
- Macaroni and cheese
- Applesauce and canned fruit
- Hygiene wipes
- Razors
- Toothpaste and shampoo
- Poise pads
As cooler weather sets in, the following items are especially appreciated:
- Ready-to-eat soups and pastas (like Chef Boyardee)
- Lip balm and lotion
- HotHands hand warmers
- Instant coffee and hot chocolate packets
- Shelf-stable and evaporated milk
- Baking mixes and baking supplies
