Town of Webb Historical Association’s Local History and Stories Series
Each week, the series will feature a different speaker to deliver a presentation and lead a discussion on a topic related to local and regional history. The public is invited to attend, enjoy the talks, ask questions, and share related information.
Thursdays throughout the summer at 5 pm at the Old Forge Public Library.
The featured program for Thursday, August 21: President Benjamin Harrison’s Adirondack Summer Home will be presented by Kristy Rubyor, Town of Webb Historian.
President Benjamin Harrison, an avid outdoorsman, found peace in the Adirondacks. He built a true Adirondack lodge on Second Lake in the Fulton Chain near Old Forge, a retreat steeped in natural beauty and historical significance. This is an opportunity to learn about his connection to the region and the legacy he left behind. The Adirondacks have always had a connection to the nation's history, and this presentation will remind residents and visitors of our connection to US history.
Kristy Rubyor, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, represents over eight generations in the Adirondack Park and five within the Town of Webb. A graduate of Town of Webb Schools, she has worked with the Town of Webb Historical Association for over a decade and brings deep personal knowledge to her role as historian.
Upcoming presentations in the series include:
-
August 21 – Town Historian Kristy Rubyor: President Benjamin Harrison’s Adirondack Connection
-
August 29 – Rev. Noel Sherry: The Great Nelson Lake Train Wreck
Please mark your calendars and join us on Thursday evenings at the library!
