Local History and Stories to feature Antique Fire Apparatus Talk with Historian Bill Blunden

Historian, Bill Blunden, will lead a discussion about Antique Fire Apparatus on Thursday, August 7 at 5 pm at the Old Forge Library, located at 220 Crosby Boulevard. Blunden will share his extensive knowledge of antique fire equipment, including a fascinating piece of local history related to the Blitz Buggy Company, which once operated in Old Forge, New York. This event is part of the Town of Webb Historical Association’s Local History and Stories Series.
Mr. Blunden has dedicated his life to the fire service. His passion began in early childhood when he accompanied his father, a former fireman and Chief of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department, to the fire hall in Northern New York. He officially joined the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department in 1982 and served for 35 years, including time as Fire Chief. Bill’s passion for fire service history is evident in his authorship of three books on firefighting history and his extensive involvement with SPAAMFAA—the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America. He is also an avid collector and restorer of antique fire apparatus. His collection includes several hand- and horse-drawn vehicles, and he is currently restoring a 1954 Blitz Buggy built in Old Forge.

Bill and his wife of 42 years, Barbara, reside in Carthage, New York, where he continues his lifelong mission of preserving fire service heritage.
