Leaving a Legacy Program at the Old Forge Library

The Old Forge Library welcomes the community to a thoughtful and informative evening on Wednesday, August 13 at 5 pm., for a special “Leaving a Legacy” program. This session will be led by David O’Neil of LPL Financial in Boonville, and Brianna Moriarty from the Estate Planning Law Center in New Hartford. Together, they will offer guidance on how to plan ahead with care, clarity, and purpose.

The program is for individuals and families who are thinking about the future, not only in financial terms, but also in terms of impact. Whether preparing to protect loved ones, support meaningful causes, or simply bring peace of mind, participants will gain a clear understanding of what it takes to leave a legacy that reflects their values.

The presenters will explore common questions that arise when thinking about estate planning:

  • What legal documents are essential to ensure that my wishes are honored?

  • Who will make decisions for me if I am unable to speak for myself?

  • How can I prepare for the costs of long-term care?

  • Are my assets, including savings and retirement accounts, protected and aligned with my goals?

  • How can I ensure that my estate plan is effective when it is needed?

This conversation goes beyond legal documents. It is about making thoughtful decisions today that will bring stability, dignity, and care to loved ones in the future. It also invites participants to consider the broader legacy they leave behind, not only for their families, but for the communities and values that have shaped their lives.

Across small towns like Webb and Inlet, legacy giving plays a quiet but powerful role. It helps sustain places that matter, including libraries, health centers, fire departments, food pantries, and other essential community services. Legacy gifts help ensure that future generations continue to have access to connection and support.

Since 1915, the Old Forge Library has served as a trusted place for education, culture, and community engagement. The library is offering this conversation with experts as an opportunity for our friends and neighbors to come together and think about the future for our families and for a community and way of life, one with resources kept strong and accessible for all.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in open conversation with the presenters. For more information, please contact the Old Forge Library at (315) 369-6008 or email oldforge@midyork.org.
