Stay Informed: Navigating Today’s Media Landscape

As the media landscape continues to shift rapidly, this interactive session will offer participants the tools to become more thoughtful, discerning, and confident news consumers.

The Old Forge Library invites the public to a timely and engaging presentation by Mary Miller of the New York Newspapers Foundation on Thursday, September 25 at 5:30 pm

Mary Miller will guide attendees through essential topics, including how to recognize credible news sources, identify misinformation and online scams, understand the difference between fact and opinion, and see how journalists verify and report stories. The session will also explore the influence of artificial intelligence on news and images, the distinction between commentary and reporting, and the role of the First Amendment in shaping journalism throughout American history.

Library Director Linda Weal noted, “These are questions people ask us every day. It is important to have a trusted, neutral resource to help navigate them.”

This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend and take part in this important community conversation.
