“Weaving Webb: Marketing Our Town,”
The presentation will offer a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to promote tourism in the Town of Webb as part of the surrounding Adirondack region.
The Old Forge Library will host a special presentation, “Weaving Webb: Marketing Our Town,” featuring Town of Webb Publicity Director Mike Farmer on Thursday October 1 at 5pm. The program is free and open to the public.
Farmer will explore the many factors involved in marketing the area, including targeting demographics, telling our story, climate adaptation, economic development, outdoor recreation, and highlighting the unique qualities that make our Adirondacks an appealing destination.
Mike Farmer is a fourth-generation Adirondack native from Old Forge. After high school he followed his ski tips west to college. He then spent more than ten years in Marine Corps aviation. Following several years as a newspaper editor, photographer and journalist, he got into adventure recreation management, primarily skiing and white-water rafting. He worked with the marketing departments of the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) in Lake Placid and the Aspen Skiing Company, while working with the ski schools at Whiteface and Aspen. He returned to his hometown in 2010 to accept the position of Publicity/Tourism Director for the Town of Webb.
The presentation will provide an inside look at the work that goes into telling the story of the Town of Webb and promoting the region to visitors while supporting the communities that call the Adirondacks home.
