Join us for a day devoted to outdoor recreation!

Xperience for All features workshops, games, demonstrations, and presentations, all in the spirit of providing museum visitors a foundation to safely pursue recreation on their own. For those who are unfamiliar or not yet comfortable exploring the region’s woods and waterways on their own, learn tips for getting started and discover affinity groups that regularly offer outings and guidance.

Since opening their doors to the public in 1957, they have delighted millions of visitors with fascinating exhibitions and stories about life in the Adirondack region. With over 20 historical and contemporary buildings on 121 acres overlooking Blue Mountain Lake, the open air campus offers lots to see and do for everyone. From the ADKX Boathouse and trails to the interactive exhibits in Life in the Adirondacks and the newly opened art exhibit, Artists & Inspiration in the Wild.

Trail talk: True Stories from the NYS Forest Rangers

NYS Forest Rangers have countless roles to fill: daring rescuers, committed conservationists, rules enforcers, direction givers, and tireless educators. Join us for an evening of stories from retired and current forest rangers—those whose intimate knowledge of the region is boundless. Through the evening program, the group will share tales of humor and of heroics as well as tips and lessons for all of us who cherish time on the trails of the Adirondacks.

Minnow Pond Trail with Alexander Stewart

This easy to moderate 3/4 mile trail is located right on ADKX property. Meander down to the ADKX boathouse, located on Minnow Pond, while taking in the scenery and learning more about the geology of the Adirondacks.

Thursday, July 31. Meet at the trailhead at 1:30 pm. 

What to Bring: Proper footwear for a hike like sneakers or boots, appropriate clothing, water and snacks if desired.

Registration required for this hike. Directions and more information will be sent once you register.

Tea with a Side of History

Tea with a Side of History

Gem Radio Theatre is pleased to present stories of famous and infamous characters that harken from the Adirondacks. Actors in period costume will share their stories in first-person while visitors sip tea in vintage cups.  An interesting and entertaining afternoon awaits at the ADKX.

Performance is free with museum admission.

Light fare and tea are free for ADKX members/$8 for non-members.


Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. Registration does not include museum admission.
