Happy Snowmobile Trails

There are a lot of great places to snowmobile in the Adirondacks, but Hamilton County has everything a snowmobiler needs — gear, supplies, food, lodging, and a lot of trails. It turns out that seven charming small towns connected to 750 miles of groomed trail adds up to a lot of happy riders.

Go anywhere

Since so many of our towns are located right on the trails, it is easy to access restaurants, lodging, and snowmobile gear, rental, and repair shops. With so many services readily available, more time can be spent where it matters — on the trails.

The Woods Inn in Inlet has a dining room, tavern, and rooms for rent. Get direct access to the Inlet/Webb Snowmobile Trail System from the Marina Motel. Oxbow Lake Motel in Piseco has seasonal rentals for the whole snowmobiling season. Irondequoit Inn has rooms and short-term cabin rentals, or consider the newly renovated rooms at Piseco Lake Lodge.

The Adirondack Trail Motel in Indian Lake is within walking distance of restaurants and gas stations. Lake Pleasant Lodge in Speculator is on the shore of Lake Pleasant, and you can catch the trail right outside the door of your motel room.

Head out on Lake Pleasant, or try the little groomed back trails which lead to all of Speculator's stores, gas stations, repair shops, and restaurants.

The expansive trail network makes it easy to plan loops. Our Out and About loop is a full day of great trails that includes wide groomed trails, trails that wind past scenic views, and plenty of potential stops.

Easy amenities

Get what you need without traveling far. Village Motor Sports in Speculator is a full service dealership for snowmobiles, and they sell gear and rent sleds. They sell Ski Doo and Yamaha parts, sleds, and accessories, just keep in mind that it's good to call ahead if you're planning on renting, especially on weekends.

You can find it at Village Motor Sports.

About a quarter mile down the road from Village Motor Sports is Tanner's Outdoor Sports, your headquarters for everything Arctic Cat. Be aware that they do not rent snowmobiles. For that, check out Clark's Snowmobile Rentals and Sales in Inlet. It's a marina in summer and a snowmobile shop in the winter, and it's been in business since the late 1940s. Piseco Performance is another option for snowmobile repairs.

The trail food in this region is outstanding and varied. If you're on the move, grab soup and sandwiches at one of the many gas stations, or head to Oak Mountain's Acorn Pub and Eatery for gourmet pub fare made by Chef Lou Petrozza, the runner up on season four of the television show Hell's Kitchen.

Meet and greet

Another index of how popular snowmobiling is in the area is the many snowmobile events throughout the winter. The Long Lake Winter Carnival in mid-January has a snowmobile parade for the crowning of the King and Queen.

Group outings and races are sponsored by local snowmobile clubs, which are devoted to the sport.

The Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club has an annual Poker Run later on January 25 and 26. SnoCade in Indian Lake over President's Day weekend has a Meet and Greet snowmobile outing and guided snowmobile rides. There's also the Speculator Lions Club Snowmobile Poker Run in mid-February and the Pleasant Riders annual Tree Burning & Sledding Party, held at the Oxbow Inn on February 10, with live music and fireworks at dark.
